FAQ

1. What is Kankan?

Kankan is a curated platform offering unique, small-group travel experiences across China. From hidden hutong coffee walks to imperial food tastings and an array of hands-on cultural experiences, we connect curious travelers with passionate local hosts, helping you see China with fresh eyes.

2. What does “Kankan” mean—and why “GoKankan”?

“看看” (kànkan) in Chinese means “have a look” or “take a peek.” It’s casual, curious, and open-ended—just like the kind of travel we believe in.

Go, Kankan is our invitation to you: go explore, go experience, go see China with fresh eyes. Whether it's your first time here or your tenth, there’s always something new to kànkan.

3. What makes Kankan different from other tour platforms?

We focus on authentic, storytelling-driven experiences that go beyond the typical tourist route. Many of our hosts are creatives who are excited to share their slice of China with you—not just as a guide, but as a local storyteller.

4. Who are these experiences for?

GoKankan is designed for curious, independent travelers who want to dive deeper into Chinese culture. Whether you're a solo explorer, a couple, or a small group, you’ll find experiences that are personal, engaging, and off the beaten path.

5. Where are your experiences based?

We’re currently focused on Beijing and select multi-day experiences in and around Beijing. More cities and regions will be added over time. Subscribe to our newsletter or follow us on social media for updates.

6. How do I book an experience?

Just browse our experiences on gokankan.com, pick the one that interests you, and follow the booking prompts. We’ll send you a confirmation email with all the details you need before your experience starts.

7. How far in advance should I book?

We recommend booking at least 72 hours in advance, especially during weekends or holidays. Some experiences with limited spots (like small food walks) may sell out quickly.

8. What’s your cancellation policy?

We offer a 100% refund for cancellations made 48 hours or more before the scheduled start time. Cancellations within 48 hours are non-refundable, as our hosts begin preparing well in advance.

You can review our full refund policy here.

9. What language are the experiences conducted in?

Most of our experiences are conducted in English. Language details are listed on each experience page. Some hosts may also speak Mandarin or other languages.

10. Are the experiences expensive?

We aim to keep prices fair and transparent, reflecting the depth and quality of the experience—many of which are custom-designed and include food, entry fees, or other perks. There are options for a range of budgets.

11. I have dietary restrictions. Can I still join food tours?

In most cases, yes! Please let us know about any dietary restrictions during checkout, and we’ll do our best to accommodate. If a tour isn’t suitable for certain restrictions, it’ll be clearly noted in the description.

12. Do you offer private or custom experiences?

Yes! If you're a group of friends, a family, or even a company looking for something tailored, contact us at hello@gokankan.com and we’ll help design a custom experience just for you.

13. Do you offer longer trips or only short tours?

We offer both! While many of our experiences are half-day or full-day, we’re also building out a portfolio of multi-day trips with trusted partners—great for weekend escapes or deeper cultural immersions.

14. Can I take photos during the experience?

Absolutely! Many of our experiences are designed to be visually rich. Just be respectful when taking photos of people or private spaces, and check with your host if you're unsure.
